These lights mark edges and steps, so even, reliable light usually matters more than raw brightness.
- Post cap lights. Measure your posts first. Common nominal sizes are 4x4, 5x5 and 6x6, and many caps include adapters.
- Fence lights mount with screws and suit both wood and vinyl fences. Down-facing designs reduce glare for neighbours.
- Step and stair lights should light the tread edge without shining into eyes.
- Flagpole lights need much more output than accent lights. In the US, the Flag Code says a flag flown at night should be properly illuminated.
- Build and rating. Stainless steel or aluminium housings with an IP65 rating last longest.
Lights on the shaded side of a fence will charge poorly; consider models with a separate panel. For walls and porches, see solar wall and porch lights.
