Solar Pool & Pond Lights Buying Guide

Solar pool lights add atmosphere rather than full illumination, and none replace a hard-wired pool light for night swimming safety.

  • Floating lights drift on the surface and charge from a top panel. Look for an IP68 rating and a sealed charging port.
  • Underwater lights attach to the wall or sit on steps. Check the depth rating and how the panel is placed above the waterline.
  • Poolside and deck lights mark edges and steps for safer walking at night.
  • Chemical resistance. Chlorine and salt water degrade cheap plastic and seals; remove floating lights before shocking the pool.
  • Colour modes. Colour-changing lights are popular; a steady white is easier on the battery.

For ponds, choose lights that will not harm fish or plants and keep cables out of pumps. For pool equipment, see pool cleaners and care.
